Smith, an official of the company, was rushing to attend to trouble somewhere on the company's line. |

Murray was arrested for vagrancy and put up bail bond which the police refused. They demanded a cash forfeit of $25 which Ms. Murray refused to pay, landing her in the city prison for a term of 100 days at labor. Since the mayor of Memphis was out of town, Murray was tried by the vice mayor, which she believed to be unlawful. The Supreme Court ruled that Murray had been "illegally restrained of her liberty" and was released from custody. |

Defendant refused to receive & pay for final shipment of 500,000 staves. Defendant maintained plaintiff was unable to supply the staves in the agreed upon time, thus violating the contract's terms. |
