McClure, who worked as a "Stenographer & Typewriter" for the plaintiffs, sued them for damages (amount not given) for breach of the contract of hiring when he was dismissed. Plaintiffs state that defendant had tried to blackmail his previous employers, Chattanooga Foundry & Pipe Co., when they dismissed him for untrustworthiness. McClure had made copies of sensitive company documents which he threatened to make public unless paid $3000 or $4000.
