D.G. Steele was the administrator for R.R. Chandler. Chandler was driving his automobile over railroad tracks, operated by Louisville and Nashville Rail Road Company. Chandler's car was hit by a train, and Chandler sustained fatal injuries that killed him about 40 minutes after impact. Steele is arguing that the train did not give warning of its approach, which caused Chandler's death. Steele is suing for compensation for Chandler's wife and two minor children. |

"Henry Blount, a deputy sheriff of Hardin County, with one Arthur Kelly, about 9:30 at night in the early days of November, 1924, was out south of Savannah, about the old Burnt Stand, watching to see if he could catch some parties who were reported to be in the whiskey business." They heard some people "cursing" and went to investigate. One person took off on a horse but they were able to grab the bridle reins of Foust's horse. They found "fruit jars containing liquor" in sacks tied to Foust's saddle. |

In original case, Jones was a real estate agent who got a right of offer on Fargason's property to the Southwestern Presbyterian University for a site for a college for $187,500. Defendant later revoked his agency without his consent. A deal was reached a few years later between the college and the defendant and the defendant paid the current agent a commission instead of the plaintiff. |

Snowden owned a building complex and rented to several people. He employed the Block Brothers to operate the elevator. Complainant worked for a laundry company and delivered to the building. During a particular delivery it was dark and complainant thought he was going into a staircase but actually walked into an open elevator shaft. The elevator was broken, and left open and no lights leading to it. Complainant sued on two different accounts for $17,000 on each suit. 2 folders. |

Ed Cromwell, deputy sheriff of Hardin County, Sheriff Williams, Deputy Sheriff W. C. Berlin, Wayne Hall, and John Pipes were out south of Savannah searching for an illegal still. "When they got there a run had already been made and the still moved away." They heard shots and followed the sound to the public road. The defendant ran, they gave chase, and Foust fell on the ground. Cromwell grabbed Foust by the collar and picked up a "half gallon jug that contained white corn whiskey." |

Hamby did "unlawfully and carnally know one Leora Blakely, a female over the age of twelve and under the age of twenty one years." The case materials state that Leora was the daughter of Nathan Blakely. She was 18 years old and Hamby was 36 at the time of the trial. Leora gave birth to twins and placed them in the Leath Orphanage at Memphis. At the time of the trial, one of the children had died and the other was still at the orphanage. |

W. E. Dickerson was the Deputy Game Warden at the time of the case. On Nov. 30, 1922, he shot Rosa Guy's husband, John Wesley Guy. Mr. Guy later (Feb. 1, 1923) died from his wounds. The case states that the Guys had seven children at the time of Mr. Guy's death: Celestine (age 21), Rosa Lee (age 11), George (age 10), Leon (age 8), Dudley (age 5), Verone (age 3), and Ernestine (age 1 year and 8 months). Mrs. Guy seeks $25,000 damages for wrongful death. |

Tommie White, a witness in the case, testified that he worked at the cotton gin owned by J. S. Pratt in the Fall of 1923, when Robin Bailey brought in a load of cotton. White stated that Bailey was drunk and was not feeding the "cotton into the suction as fast as the gin requires." White started helping Bailey feed the gin. White stated that Bailey was drunk and that, at one point, he dragged a bottle down with the cotton. White stated the cotton was wet and smelled like whiskey. |

Hudson & his wife had been separated and Cook became involved with a quarrel between the two which made Hudson angry. In the statement of the case written by Pierce & Fry, the attorneys for the defendant, they ask the court to reverse the case because it was "purely a frame-up on the part of the negroes testifying for the State." |

S. M. Vaughn sued the defendant for $10,000.00. In May of 1925, Dr. Oliver was a practicing physician and surgeon in Paris, TN. The plaintiff employed him to treat him for eczema located at the base of the spine and covering an area of about 3 inches. The treatment consisted of exposure of the effected area to light and rays of an X-ray machine, for 3 or 4 exposures at intervals of a few days. Exposures were too long and not focused causing severe burns in a circular area of about 12 inches. 2 folders. |
