In 1926, one R. A. Scott entered into a contract with the state to construct a section of highway for approximately $112,000 and entered into a bond in the penalty of $56,000 with the defendant as a surety. The plaintiff supplied materials for the project totaling $698, which was never paid even after written notices to the defendant and R. A. Scott. Suing for the total of the debt plus interest.

The Russellville Bank sued McGhee for $4637 debt by 2 unpaid promissory notes and for $179.91 debt for overdrawing from his account. Plaintiff sought decree for full amount of debt to be levied on his land to satisfy the same. Exhibits include 2 bank certificates belonging to McGhee for 1.5 and 5 shares of capital stock of the Russellville Bank & Trust Co. 3 folders.

The complainant sold a tract of land belonging to him to the defendant for 35,000 dollars. The defendant paid 5000 dollars of this in cash but executed three notes for the remaining amount. The note is past due.

Dempsey is sued for debt of $257.50 for that the defendant repossessed an automobile sold to LeCroy and transferred to plaintiff and failed to comply with the conditional sales law of Tennessee Exhibits include bill of exchange, receipts of monthly payments, conditional sales agreement and transfer of possession form.

Additional defendants: A.M. Corpening and I.C. Corpening. Defendant had bought machinery from the plaintiff and executed a promissory note of $1000. Plaintiff filed suit so that all creditors could prosecute their claims in this court and that a receiver be appointed to convert all of def.'s property into money and be authorized to collect debts. Addtl dfnt: United States Fidelity & Guaranty Co. Pltf. is based in St. Louis, MO and Dfnt. Newsom is from Mississippi. Newsom signed a contractor contract with the state to improve Road number 89, project number 331-E (Bridges), between Palmersville and the KY line. Newsom ordered $33,374.59 of timber and ties from pltf. and has only paid $25,000 leaving a remaining debt of $7,874.59, for which they sued.

View Entry 1931 William D. Lyle v. Interstate Life & Casualty Company Knox Debt

Lyle sued the Interstate Life & Casualty Co. for debt due by life insurance policy on the life of Nola Lyle, dec. after demand had been made and payment refused. Lyle sought face of policy ($225) and 25% penalty for withholding payment. Payment was withheld on the grounds of failing to pay the premiums.

View Entry 1931 York Quillen v. W. E. Long et al. Hawkins Debt

Additional defendant: Mrs. W. E. Long. Plaintiff complains that W. E. Long was injured and out of work for a substantial period of time. During that time plaintiff, a merchant, provided groceries for the defendants with the promise that he would be reimbursed. Plaintiff further complains that after the defendant won a lawsuit against the Southern Railway Co. for his injuries, the plaintiff refused to reimburse him.
