In November 1930, Sam Barfield arrested J.H. Hastings, Jr. and his father, J.H. Hastings, Sr. for unlawful possession of intoxicating liquor. J.H. Hastings, Jr. said that the wrongful arrest injured his reputation and sued for a new trial. |

A bill was filed against said Fort Bros. by several of their creditors and the Def. Kellogg was appointed as receiver of their property. Pla. alleges that as receiver, the Def. unlawfully retained white and red oak cross ties legally purchased by the Pla. |

Plaintiffs claimed that the Act being used to justify the payment, Chapter 574 of the Private Acts of 1925, was unconstitutional. Plaintiffs sued to stop the payment. |

William Jackson was arrested by R.W. Rogers for reckless driving, was placed in jail and told to sign on a line-not knowing nor intending to plead guilty to the offense. Jackson charged that he was not guilty and sought habeas corpus-to be released from illegal imprisonment, prevented from being transported to a workhouse to serve out the fines and costs, and allowed to make bond. |
