Berry sued cousin Long & Carter Fagg Co. (had tobacco warehouse in Morristown) over 896 lbs of tobacco Berry says stolen from him Dec. 31; says he next saw it on floor of Carter Fagg warehouse week later, identified it by ties, macadam dust (his tobacco raised near macadam road), tobacco grade, & blue feather (Berry had blue hen at barn where tobacco stored). Witnesses: Bob Wolfe (Berry's sharecropper) & sons Coy & Roy; Long's teen children Rossie May & Ralph, Walter McMillan (col., worked for Long).

View Entry 1931 Morris Goans v. State Hamblen Liquor Violation

Goans charged and convicted of transporting liquor in quantities of 1 gallon or more. He was sentenced to 1 year in the penitentiary.

View Entry 1931 N. A. Hammer v. H. G. Hill Company Inc. Hamblen Workman's Compensation

Hammer was a manager of the local branch of H.G. Hill Company store, a retail grocery business, located on Main Street in Morristown. A man named Red Graham attempted to steal merchandise, rob the cash drawer, and attempted to pass a forged check. Hammer followed him and in process of retrieving stolen merchandise, he was injured in the shoulder and right arm. Def. later discharged him due to his injury nor did they pay him for his injuries. Hammer suing for half his wages for 300 weeks. 2 folders.

View Entry 1931 State v. Park Saylor et al. Hamblen Disturbance of Public Worship

Add. Def: Elbert Dyer, Carl Bernard, and Jim Atkins. This is an appeal by the State from an order sustaining a motion to quash. Def. are accused of disrupting a religious worship by loud and indecent talk, and throwing mud balls.
