Plaintiff in error and Oliver Gadd are accused of participating in the robbery and attempted murder of E. A. Jenkins. Jenkins was crossing a bridge when he noticed two men standing on the other side. According to Jenkins, one of the men pointed a pistol at him and he immediately ran. The bridge was under construction and the plaintiff in error was the night watchman. During the night of the incident, the pla. in error claims it was Jenkins who pointed at pistol at him. |

Alex McKinney, aka Eleck McKinney, is charged with feloniously assaulting W. M. Street with a shotgun with intent to commit murder. Both the plaintiff and the victim live in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. A day before the incident, Street, a deputy sheriff, had captured a still and whiskey which he believed belonged to the Pla. in error. The next day as Street was passing through Roan Mountain, he was shot in the back by someone who he identified as the Pla. |

Montgomery testified he went to Buster Bingham's looking for whiskey, but Buster was not home, so he left and headed to his grandmother's but was shot by dfnt. along the way. Dfnts. were accused of the assault to commit murder in the first degree of Joe Matthews. Matthews' family ran a filling station "at the intersection of the Jackson and Bolivar road, what is known as the Steam Mill Ferry Road." After midnight on the night of May 31, 1931 a car of men drove up to a neighboring gas station, and before they left fired a shotgun blast at the Matthews' station, hitting the door jamb in which Joe was standing. The Hills: Henry, Lena, Jessie Lee, J. C., Alfred, and John Allen, were sleeping in their home when they were attacked by group of men in the middle of the night. The Hills were African American.The group shot out all of the windows in the home, and fired shots at the family, striking Lena and four-year old John Allen. Hill identified R. C. Melson, Lee Melson, "another gentleman, his cousin, little white boy called Sooner...Will Reid, Tump Givens, and Vincent "Preacher" Comer" in the group. In 4 folders. |

Hickerson was accused of the felonious assault of one Jimmie Sims. At a party at the home of J. J. Sims, a dropped coin led to an argument that ended when Hickerson supposedly used a razor or other sharp object to cut Jimmie Sims across the face leaving a deep cut and eventual scar. Hickerson claimed self-defense, State claimed it was an unprovoked attack. |

Bingham was accused of the felonious assault of one Orville Montgomery. Montgomery, the prosecutor, gathered a group of friends and family to guard some beer which had been found on dfnt.'s property. Landers charged with making as assault and battery upon Jonah Henderson by shooting him in and upon the head. The bullet went in the corner of his left eye and came out the right temple, making him blind in both eyes. He was shot in the cherry orchard picking some cherries. The exhibit includes a beautiful illustration of the scene of the crime with cherry trees and a springhouse. Landers was convicted of assault with intent to commit voluntary manslaughter; he was sentenced to 2 years in penitentiary. |

Deft, charged with attacking Orville Martin with a pistol with intent to kill on the date of 16 January 1932. At the time of the incident Martin was a deputy sheriff, & one of a group of men who tried to apprehend Ward when he was caught in the act of picking up 4 sacks of stolen chickens. Crenshaw was accused of the malicious shooting of Joseph Fields. Fields survived and acted as witness in the trial. Fields asserted Crenshaw and his wife developed an affair when Mrs. Fields was assisting an ill and dying Mrs. Crenshaw. After this, Mrs. Fields moved back home, where the shooting occurred. Mr. Fields was drawing water for dfnt., who was plotting with Mrs. Fields to kill Mr. Fields. Shooting occurred on Mr. Flippin's farm. Housed in 2 folders |
