John invited 14 year old Sam and another boy Tom Jones to ride with him to help him unload and loan truck. John Davis backed the truck up into a pit, causing Sam severe injuries from which he later died. Pla. Suing for gross negligence. 2 folders. |

Whitzel went to Chattanooga after being hired on probation as a canvasser. He came to like the city and wished to moved his family there from Kansas. He was then let go and sued. A complication arose after the jury announced its verdict in Whitzel's favor. Two jurymen, C. R. Buford and B. F. McGill, told the court that the decision had not been unanimous even though they were believed to have voted with the majority so they could go home. |

John Johnson lived with his brother Charley and sister Lelie on the farm where Robert Berry was raised. The murder occurred across the road from a store owned by Clint Herrell. |

Plaintiff was the administratrix of her husband, John H. Bean, a railway brakeman who was killed on the job. Bean claimed that her husband was working atop a train when it went under a low bridge, causing him to strike beams projecting from the bridge. He was injured so badly that he suffered great physical pain and mental anguish before he died a few hours later. |

Loma Harp, on her behalf and as next friend of Ralph Harp, Eddie Harp and J.B. Harp, all minors, sued the defendant for workmen's compensation for the death of her husband, Clement, who died from falling off of a flask about 7 feet high. Harp suing for half wages for a period of 400 weeks as well as for hospital and doctor bills paid and his burial expenses not in excess of $100. Court ruled in her favor for $13.14 a week, plus $100 for medical bills and $100 for funeral bills. |

Cate (dec.), was crossing a railroad track belonging to the defendant when a conductor of train owned by the defendant negligently ran the train over the deceased, mortally injuring him. Plaintiff claims it was the carelessness of the conductor acting as an agent of the defendant that caused Cate's death. Plaintiff sued for the wrongful death of his intestate in the sum of $25,000. |

Plaintiff is noted to live 17 miles from Greeneville and 4 miles from Romeo on Gap Creek Road, or Horton Highway. The Plaintiff's building was the only one in the community, which was comprised mostly of farmers. |

His employer has refused to pay him Workman's Compensation, although it did try to get him to sign up for accident insurance. Tendle was accused with Clarence Hill and Clyde Hill of the murder of Denver Pilcher. Tendle was spelled variously as Tindall. Dfnt. testified he went to Pilcher's to discuss water and profits of a whiskey still. Dfnt. swore Pilcher shot at him first, and he only shot back in self-defense. Testified Pilcher shot twice, and he only shot once. |

Sam Smith, the brother of James Smith, sued the railroad company for the wrongful death of his brother for $2,999.99 damages. James was driving a school bus he had picked up from Mitchell Phillips to drive high school students to school. A train hit his bus while crossing the tracks, killing him instantly. S. T. Harvey sued railroad for $2950 damages for injuries inflicted on his son, Howes Harvey, age ten. Howes Harvey also sued by next friend, S. T. Harvey. Plntff. states that on 24 Oct. 1930 his son's hand was crushed beneath a box car's wheels & injured so badly that all but the thumb had to be amputated. Box car was stationary when his son was reaching beneath it, but moved when it was negligently bumped by a train operated by the deft., causing the injury. 3 Folders. |

Defendant was jointly indicted with Carl Hickman, Aldie Bunch who were alleged to have killed one Bill Bunch, 8 Oct. 1930, and to have secreted deceased's body in the Hiwassee River near where he was murdered. The body was recovered from the river, June 1931. |
