Shipley was arrested for public drunkenness while walking downtown with his daughter. He pled not guilty, saying that no warrant had been issued for his arrest and that the $50.00 fine was excessive. Shipley also claimed that the arresting officer attempted to humiliate him in his daughter's presence. The officer stated that Shipley resisted arrest. |

The note was not paid and the plaintiff institute replevin proceedings and gained control of a large stock of inventory. At the same time, the Unicoi Funeral Home was also indebted to the defendant who later brought suit against the plaintiff, alleging she was indebted to him by violation of the Bulk Sales law. |

Cochran hit the truck containing passenger Homer Lay, colliding and causing the truck to turn over with Homer beneath it. Homer worked for B. D. Charlie Spoon fired two shots at Roy Helton killing him. The incident occurred outside of Helton's restaurant and filling station. Although Spoon had a gun, Helton had only a glass Coca Cola bottle. Spoon was obviously drunk and swearing at Helton. Witnesses testified that the Coca Cola bottle could have been used as a weapon, and was a threat to Spoon's life. |

Strong sued Horner's wholesale grocery company for $25,000 in damages after driver Roy Huntley collided with an auto driven by Alfred Strong, dec. The wreck occurred at night, and the oversized grocery truck was not illuminated by proper lights that show the width of the truck to oncoming traffic. Berley Penley was also killed, but his nephew Malcolm survived, as did Grover Lane. Exhibits include photos of the wrecked 31 Chevrolet. |

Defts., together with about 25 other black men, had formed the "Green Light Taxi Club" which operated in the city's black neighborhoods. The Tennessee Electric Power Co. objected to their presence. |

Echols sued Prosterman for $5000 in damages, due to an unnecessary dental procedure. "Tooth is permanently damaged . . . Her personal appearance is forever marred, and her chance for a happy and successful marriage is greatly handicapped." Dr. is accused of pulling the tooth and refusing to help further until her bill was paid. Echols sat in the chair bleeding. Robert Julian asked Howard Arnett to go home from the church house and get his shot gun so they could squirrel hunt. When he returned, John Robert and Dayton came out of the church and said to shoot. Howard raised his gun multiple times, finally firing with his eyes closed. He went home and admitted to his father he had killed John Arnett. |

Trust company was the executor of the Daniel Briscoe estate. As such, bank had remodeled and reconstructed a building known as the Bus Terminal. The company operated and leased the building which had been built in the form of an arcade. They paved the entrance with a kind of flooring that became very slick when wet. Rankin slipped and fell on the pavement, breaking her arm at the elbow. She sued to recover lost salary and medical costs and for suffering permanent physical pain and mental anguish. |

On the day of the accident Evans had allowed Doyle, a reputed bootlegger, to use the car on company business. |

James Lawson England, son of dfnt., used his mother's car to take Evans to a show in Henderson. During the drive, England attempted to pass a wagon carrying benches, hit a bench and flipped the car on its top in a ditch. |

Anderson invited Shoemaker to ride in his Essex Coach automobile from Athens to Cleveland. On the return trip Anderson "recklessly, negligently and carelessly caused said automobile to leave the [Lee Highway], going over in a ditch…." Defendant was seriously injured; he was confined to hospital and to his bed for many days. Medical bills mounted, and Shoemaker, the county sheriff, sought to recover damages. |

W. T. Rogers was driving delivery vehicle for J. W. Glass Furniture company allegedly in a wreckless manor. Frank Minick pulled his car off the road to give way to Rogers. Rogers drove down the wrong side and collided with Minick, with his pregnant wife, Ruth in the car. Both were injured, the car badly damaged. Minick sued for $1500 in damages. See also box 1582. |
