Jane C. Brackett divorced Adkins Brackett and was awarded one-half of his assets. Additionally he was made responsible for court costs. When he couldn't afford it, the sheriff levied the costs upon his land. Brackett argued that would make him destitute, therefore unable to pay alimony. When the sheriff auctioned the land at a courthouse sale, the high bidders were Owens, J. M. Clementson, W. L. Lane, W. S. Jaston, and E. L. Miller. Brackett (who later married Eliza Haney) asked the court to void sale.

Spencer Beavers (dec), as county sheriff & collector, sold 93 acres owned by Isaac Fyffe heirs that adjoined Walker Reservation, which land went through several conveyances ending with purchase by Brock, but each deed had same clerical error in the description. Brock says heirs (Def.. Mees & Fyffes) knew of sale yet have tried to claim land due to this error.

Joseph Smith possessed an estate worth $745 after payment of debts. Margaret Peters suing for possession of land due her as widow. Pickens wants injunction against Ballow to keep him from prosecuting his action of ejectment. Plaintiffs charge that Ballow is entitled to only part of the land.

Pickel seeks $1300 payment for a fire that destroyed his house and the contents therein. Deposition includes description of all household items, with Pickel explaining what each was used for. Excellent description of household of this era. The insurance company argues that the house actually belonged to Pickel's mother.

This was a suit on an accident insurance policy to recover $2500 for the loss of a hand. Opinion only.

Carlock defaulted on land, but began paying it back, redeeming his claim to the title. However, he alleged that bank took his land wrongly and did not reimburse him for his equity. Additional materials in ET 1906 (Range 19, Section A, Shelf 2).

The plaintiff entered into a contract with the Athens Table and Manufacturing Co. to insure her son, Oran Melton, an employee of said co. Oran became sick with typhoid fever and died in July of 1930. The defendant refused to honor said contract saying Oran terminated his employment with the Athens Table Manufacturing Co., voiding his insurance policy. Exhibit material includes the insurance policy contract.

Smith attempted to board a train in Philadelphia, Loudon County, Tenn., bound for Athens, McMinn County, Tenn. The train started moving as she was in the process of boarding. She was thrown onto the tracks & the train rolled over her right leg. The injury required her leg to be amputated. She was suing for $15,000.

Plaintiff was the inventor of a tractor plow and filed an application for a patent in 1921. Subsequent to the patent letters, the plaintiff entered into a contract with the defendants after a lawsuit of infringement on the Oliver Chilled Plow Works. The plaintiff claims he is entitled to payment of damages by the Oliver Chilled low Works and that the defendant had no right to compromise all claims for infringement on the patent contracts and is demanding $2.50 of royalties per plow.

Additional Defendants: Lewis Newman and John M. Wilkins. Complicated case regarding title and liens on land. Plaintiff sued to have notes that Brient owed for a tract of land in dispute ified since the court had already declared his title void.

Hicks was a professor at Ulysses S. Grant University in Athens, and was accused of assaulting Miss Bell. Bell tried to leave the room before class was complete, & Hicks caught her by the arm. She hit him in the face with books, & he tried to force her to sit.

A Mr. Cone purchased land from John Atlee, Washington Atlee's nephew, John acting as agent. The sale was described as "a wealthy relative . . . Allowing a poorer one to use his property, & to sell parts of his property, & keep the proceeds, & use it as long as his benevolent disposition permits him." John failed to file a deed of sale, & the heirs wished to clear up the ownership of this land.

Plaintiff sued defendants for non-payment of insurance compensation after the damage of a truck he leased from Eagle Motor Company. Truck was insured, but defendant refused pay out. Additional Plaintiff: Home Insurance Company
