Case involves suspicious goings-on in a land sale made during the Civil War (Confederate money). Defendants: Clisbe Austin, F. H. Austin, and James A. McKinney. Plaintiffs: Thomas S. Bautz and Edward S. Bourne. In 1862 Clisbe Austin purchased of C. J. McKinney 80-100 acres of prime land. Purchase was made in Confederate money. John A. McKinney sued for the recovery of the land, saying that his brother never had title. |

Cowan. 70-acre tract of land owned by Price was sold to satisfy Wilson's debt. Land was bought by Hiram & Alexander Brown, who sold it to wife of William F. Wilkerson. Wilkerson's claimed ownership of the 70-acre tract as well as another 8-acre tract owned by Price. Price claimed they got sheriff's deed to other tract through fraud. |

Plaintiffs administrator of Enoch Cunningham, dec. July 1872, Northern sold and conveyed to the deceased an deed for land in Davidson County. The land was $3850 of which $850 was paid in cash and the remaining $3000 was to be paid by promissory notes. Enoch died intestate on May 22, 1874 before he could finish the payments. Northern placed a lien on the land until the rest of the money was paid. |
