Additonal defendants Samuel Cowan, Mary Cowan aka Turk Brady. Kilter purchased land from Cowan who clailmed to own a homestead with whom he called his wife. Samuel Cowas was a man of color and Mary Cowas was a white woman. They were not married by law. Kilter was looking to to pay off the balance for the land and was also seeking the court to state that Mary Cowan could not in the future seek money for the homestead or claim ownership.

Forcibe entry and detainer for forced entry into tract of land lying in the 18th Civil Dist., Williamson, by the land of Dr. F. G. McGavock, James Glenn, and T. F. Kirkpatrick, and others. Thomas M. Joplin was a resident of Spartanburg, South Carolina. A copy of the will of John Bostick, Jr. is included in the transcript. Bushrod Johnson (1817-1880) was a Northern born Confederate General during the Civil War.

Monulton was on trial for assault and battery of S. E. Whaler. He was charged with beating, wounding and the ill treatment of Whaler.

White sought to purchase 12 acres of land from Joseph Rouhs. He then sold his interest in the 12 acres to Edward Nixon, who was supposed to settle the debt with Rouhs. Nixon didn't pay off debt, so Rouhs brought suit against White & won judgment against him. The land was sold at a court-ordered sale & Helen Nixon bought the land at the sale.

Bell sued to set aside a contract which she was forced to enter by threats, fraud, and intimidation on the part of the defendant. Contract was for 250 acres willed to her after her husband's death to be sold at her death and the funds split between her daughters. Connected to other cases only named by number in the file. This case was filed against the heirs of William Swan, dec. Defendants previously filed a case to separate the land of William Swan into partitions. Plaintiff was a large retail merchant from Boston, MA that sued to collect a debt owed H. A. Bateman. Bateman had entered into a land transaction with the defendant for a valuable lot on Summer St, the main shopping district of downtown Nashville. Additional defendants: F. M. Woodall, sheriff of Davidson Co. Several other County cases are mentioned.

Plea of trespass & damages of $5,000.00. Defendant, a corporate entity based, State of Georgia. Seeking damages relative to incident, Feb. 1877, at Shellmound Station, Marion Co., TN.
