Dispute over ownership of a tract of land in Putnam county. Plaintiff alleged that defendant wrongfully cut, removed, and sold valuable timber from the Plaintiff's land. The Sally Cronk Spring Branch is the disputed boundary. Plaintiff argued that the land was once owned by Marvel Marcum.

Incomplete case file--Assignment of Errors only. The case originated with Voyles's injury at the rail yard. Horace Goldston lured Voyles away from his job shoveling coal to work as a railcar coupler. Voyles took the switcher job, as Goldston told him the wages were better. Voyles mashed his finger while coupling without a lantern (Goldston told him he wouldn't need one), so he sued.

Co-defendant is Mrs. R. M. Jones. The property in question is a piano purchased by Mrs. Jones from the Hollenberg Music Co. Issues include her ownership of the piano separate from her husband, her husband's assumption of the loan after a period of time, Hollenberg's tearing up of the original contract and signing of a new one, and the fact that the piano was not made of walnut, as Mrs. Jones had been informed by the salesman. Several briefs are included in the folder.

Additional plaintiff: J. Friedman (also spelled Freedman). Plaintiffs suing for the use of D. W. Butler. Plaintiff owned a small clothing store located on the south side of the public square in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her store and stock of goods were destroyed by fire on February 2, 1894. Plaintiff brought suit complaining that the defendant, an insurance company, refused to honor her policy. Casefile notes that F. Friedman did not speak English fluently. Her nationality is unclear.

Complainant filed bill to recover money due him for work done by him for defendant company in grading streets under a contract with defendant company.

Berry sued to recover equity in land, along with M. W. Watkins, & Lula H. Doyle. They sought to recover taxes due, as well as interest on the land. Exhibits include two oversized hand-drawn maps of land in dispute and surrounding area located in M-17-21.

Defs Annie Applegate, widow of B. G. Fox dec. 1890, husband Abijah Applegate, Ida Fox, Hugh S. Fox, Mary Fox. Henderson purchased a tract of land from W. B. Henderson. B. G. and Annie held titles to this land and in the language of that deed it mentions their children, the defendants. Plaintiff argues that this language does not mean the children own any part of the land.

Keeling filed suit to collect $2,000 on benefit certificate #I89054, belonging to her deceased husband, James H. Keeling. Exhibit is a 1891 booklet of the Constitutions and General Laws of The Knights of Honor.

Pla. was a soliciting agent for the North Western Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee Wisconsin. He sold the defendant two insurance policies with the agreement that he (pla.) would assume responsibility for the premiums and the defendant would reimburse him at a later date. Plaintiff complains that the defendant now refuses to pay him back and is suing to recover the cost of said premiums.

Sues for a contract to build a house on Mississippi Avenue.

Pltf. married J. E. Gilbert in 1867, and divorced in Texas in 1892. During their marriage J. E. Gilbert swapped a deed with dfnt. for tract of land in TN. However, pltf. owned the deed through homestead and did not agree to or sign the transaction. She asserted the swap made and void, as her former husband did not have the appropriate ownership of the deed to make such an exchange.

Next friend: Benjamin B. Beason. Addtl dfnt: Mary Ash. Pltf. stated she was the daughter of Rebecca Beason, who died owning several tracts of inherited land. Pltf. asserted her aunt accidently sold her mother's land unaware she died with a written will and heir. Pltf. sued for rights and profits of land.

Gallagher and McGuire bought a tract of land together, built a storehouse, and started a business that dealt in dry goods. McGuire then conveyed the lot and storehouse to J. W. McCarty. Gallagher sued to have McCarty's deed declared a cloud on his rightful title. McCarty's title voided, and rent and debts due for use of the land paid.

Pla., a grain milling business, held a policy with the def. for protection against loss and damage by fire. Plaintiff’s property was destroyed by fire in 1893, and a claim was submitted to the def. The def. denied liability and refused to make payment.
