Hughs had a mill 3-4 miles from where William Raulston lived, where Hughs kept a bed & slept. It was at this mill Hughs & Raulston had a run-in of sorts ultimately resulting in Hughs shooting a pistol. Witnesses: James Turner, Lewis Lay, William Longmire, Isaac Lay. Jury found Hughs not guilty of a felonious assault, but guilty of a simple assault, for which he was fined $25. |
