Defendant had been discharged as result of labor strike by messenger boys against company. Carroll threatened bodily harm against defendant. |

The folder includes three briefs, two hand-written and one printed. Smith worked as a "rouster" on the steamboat Rene Macready, loading cotton. He claims he was attacked by the first mate, beaten on the head and buttocks with a hickory stick, and then threatened with a pistol and shot at. |
