Crenshaw was accused of the malicious shooting of Joseph Fields. Fields survived and acted as witness in the trial. Fields asserted Crenshaw and his wife developed an affair when Mrs. Fields was assisting an ill and dying Mrs. Crenshaw. After this, Mrs. Fields moved back home, where the shooting occurred.
