Silas Weatherford testified that Lewis was at Mr. Wilson's grocery with others & James C. Hunter offered everyone a drink, but Lewis was already drunk. Hunter announced to the crowd that he would "cut a g_dd_mn_d man" & chased Silas outside where Hunter cut him. According to witnesses, Lewis did not interfere, but cheered him on. Lewis appealed because he did not actually assault anyone. |
