Alex McKinney, aka Eleck McKinney, is charged with feloniously assaulting W. M. Street with a shotgun with intent to commit murder. Both the plaintiff and the victim live in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. A day before the incident, Street, a deputy sheriff, had captured a still and whiskey which he believed belonged to the Pla. in error. The next day as Street was passing through Roan Mountain, he was shot in the back by someone who he identified as the Pla. |

Pla. in error is accused of stabbing Charlie Dodgin with a pocket knife with intent to kill. Pla. in error, his wife, Otha Reagan, and Dodgin spent the night at Skiyuki Inn, which is described as a restaurant and soft drink stand. During the night, all of the parties consumed whiskey. After Pla. in error fell asleep, Dodgin and Pla.'s wife got into an argument and struck each other. Upon learning this, the Pla. in error went to Dodgin and stabbed him. |

Case of assault with attempt to commit rape of Lucinda Jones. Cutter, an Irish boarder and well-digger, frequently solicited her chastity while he was drunk. He soon "violently and against her will feloniously" did ravish and carnally know her. Afterward, "she was attacked with a sick spell... & was sitting by the door fanning herself with a turkey wing--Deft was laying down in the floor with his pantaloons unbuttoned" and [graphic description follows]. The defendant's name could be Cutter or Cotrell. |

Plaintiff in error is accused of assaulting Charlie Shelton with a pistol with intent to kill. Shelton was working in a field when the plaintiff allegedly began shooting at him from window in his home. Shelton and the plaintiff were neighbors and had been feuding for some time. Case sought to clarify the ownership of several shade trees. On the morning of the shooting, McDonald's wife Ida was arrested for threatening Shelton with a pistol. |

Plaintiff in error is accused of assaulting J. S. Riggs. According to Riggs, on the day of the incident the plaintiff was passing by his home when the two began to argue. The plaintiff accused Riggs of not liking him and began using obscenities. The two separated but met again later that evening in a nearby saloon. The two men briefly exchanged words before the plaintiff shot Riggs with a pistol. Riggs lived and testified at the trial. |

21 year old Kenneth Baxter was accused of entering B.H. Sprankle's real estate office on Union Street in Knoxville, and robbing clerk Lavonne Edmonds of $108.10 at gun point. Baxter claimed to be ill with food borne illness and bed ridden at friend's house. Eye witnesses could not surely identify Baxter. Baker also produced a new witness, was already serving time in jail when the trial took place. |

Pla. in error disturbed a prayer session at Smyrna Church by going through the church with a flashlight, looking for a lost pocket watch. After being unable to find it, Pla. in error left the church and began walking along the highway. Pla. in error then turned around to go back to the church to look for the watch again. On his way back, Pla. in error passed Rolly West and began cussing. When asked not to use such language in front of women, Pla. in error cut West and his wife with a knife. |

This is an appeal. Peyton, a free black man, was accused of assault upon Leannah Reed, who was white, shooting and wounding her hand & arm on 22 March, 1865. Circuit court found Peyton guilty and sentenced 5 yrs. hard at the TN State Penitentiary. All of this came out of a scuffle between Peyton and Leannah's son Harrison Reed over a bottle of Whiskey. When Peyton wouldn't give it up to Harrison, he called for his mother to bring his pistol. The firearm discharged when Peyton grabbed for it. |

Joe Black was talking to Holton about a dime that Holton owed him. Woodard approached Holton and asked for a loan. He claims Black winked at Holton. Woodard then assaulted Black with a knife against the peace and dignity of the State. The defendant moved for a new trial (denied) and then prayed for an appeal to the next term of the Supreme Court at Nashville which is granted. Also included: State v. Riley Woodard |

Sheriff Cecil was the Uncle of the Smith brothers (Jerry, John & Gilbert), his son Riley Cecil was their cousin. Cecil & the brothers were at a saloon at Helenwood making a bunch of noise, when they began fighting. Jerry Smith shot and killed his cousin Riley Cecil & was Gerald hit him in the face with a rock. |

Cause of action: "Felonious Assault to commit Larceny." Jessie B. Bramon testified that he was camping in a wagon when some men came up and asked him if he had any guns. When he replied no, they asked if he had any money. When Bramon's son came up, they hit him with a rock. Bramon, Bramon's son Martin, J. M. Matheus, M. S. Goins, Henry Mayfield, James Hamilton, and J. E. Conner all testified in the case. |

When Terry went to reprimand the child, Huffman stepped in and shot Terry Bound with State v. R. L. Rogers(WT2165), then again with exhibit volumes of Nash., Chatt., & St. Louis Railway Co. v. W. S. Knight, et al.(WT2165). |

Defendant indicted for felonious assault for attacking and wounding O. C. Pierce with a knife in Sept. 1898. Also indicted for attempted murder in the 2nd degree & attempted voluntary manslaughter. Defendant stated his actions were justified as Pierce had insulted his wife by singing a vulgar song ("Rye Straw") in her presence. Pierce maintained that he was singing "Bill Jones" which was not a vulgar song & had not realized Mrs. Scearce was insulted. |

Glorious Work Performed by the City Citizens of Union City on Last Monday." Clemmons removed to Dresden to avoid lynching. |

Victim: T. C. Whitfield. Cause of action: assault by shooting with a gun with an attempt to commit murder. Henry Jackson and T. C. Whitfield lived on farms adjoining each other. They had a disagreement over Whitfield's hogs being on Jackson's property. After Whitfield agreed to bring his hogs back, Jackson arrived with a shotgun and shot Whitfield in the groin and thighs. |

On July 13, 1848, defendant & Lewis Deavers were said to have assaulted one Augustis M. Park. In the course of the fight, the defendants put one of Park's eyes out, resulting in great disfigurement. Defendants found guilty of assault & mayhem. Gabriel was sentenced to two years hard labor at the TN State Penitentiary. Interesting to note that Park was a witness to an earlier fight between defendant and several of his slaves, who came to investigate the commotion & intervene. |
