Additional Defendants: Joseph Clark, John B. Robinson, W. B. Stokes, Thomas Driver, and Helen Shurer. Brien Sr. was appointed the guardian of the plaintiffs in 1866 after the death of their father Charles Shurer. As guardian Brien signed a bond with the codefendants as sureties. When the plaintiffs came of age they requested a settlement of the bonds of their guardian, which they claimed were overdue.
