Additional plaintiff: Ira W. King. Scott sued Clements and King for breach of an apprentice bond, given by plaintiffs and James Stiwalt as suretites in 1859. Scott was then 13 or 14 years old and according to the bond he would remain as apprentice till he was 21. However without plaintiffs consent Scott joined the U. S. Army they could not regain possession of him. Scott claimed Clements beat him severly with a stick and that he did not receive education or clothes as was stipulated in the bond. |

Plaintiff Joseph Ruohs purchased 22 bonds of $1k each issued by the town of Athens, in order to by shares of $22k in stock in the Nashville & Tellico Railroad Company, meant to mature in 20 years. Ruohs accused the defendants, who comprised the Board of the Mayor and Alderman, of failure to pay interest on bonds and therefore, defaulting on said bonds. The plaintiff further accused some defendants of fraudulently avoiding liability by resigning their official posts. See additional case ET 4a about bonds. |

Walker became the guardian of Martha Ferguson in 1868 and issued bond. Martha and James Ferguson married in 1870. Martha died intestate in 1871. James brought two suits against Walker as guardian for intentionally and fraudulently failing to account for certain funds. |

Brien Sr. was appointed the guardian of the plaintiffs in 1866 after the death of their father Charles Shurer. As guardian Brien signed a bond with the codefendants as sureties. When the plaintiffs came of age they requested a settlement of the bonds of their guardian, which they claimed were overdue. |
