In 1811 Matthews hired Robb & Co. to haul a shipment of bailing weighing over two thousand pounds from Cairo, TN to commission merchants Vaughn & Lee in Camden, SC. Once in Camden, Matthews refused to pay Robb insisting on giving him credit payable in April. Robb suggested that the commission merchants pay him the $689 he was owed when the bailing was sold. Robb then sued Matthews to recover the payment. James Winchester Blackman & Henry Cook were Robb's partners. |
