Plaintiffs suing for the face amount of the policy for $1,500 along with a 25% penalty. |

The plaintiff filed suit to enjoin the defendant from suing for payment, claiming that she had removed all her belongings from the home prior to the fire and they therefore was not entitled to payment. Hugh Gardner took out a regular 5 year policy in the sum of $500 with the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Carroll County. The policy was to insure his house and all its contents. On 11/18/1917 he received a notice that he owed $2.00 as an assessment. This was the only notice he received. On 11/19/1917 he lost his house and all its contents in a fire. When he tried to collect on the claim the Insurance Company refused to pay. Court sided with defendant. Gardner appealed. |

The company produced synthetic silk (rayon). "Glanzstoff" can be roughly translated as "shiny/shimmery stuff." |
