Miller charged Simpson with trespassing on his land, destroying fences, damaging crops, and assaulting him. Miller also alleged that Simpson had scared his "sick" daughter so badly that she had a "relapse" which cost Miller money in doctor's bills.

Shipley sued the defendant railroad for $5,000 in damages for failing to wait a sufficient time to allow he and his wife, both sick and feeble, to depart the train, causing them to miss their stop and have to endure unfamiliar streets, lodging expense , and suffering to get home. Polly Smith is the wife of R.D. Smith. Plaintiffs accuse Simpson of impregnating their daughter referred to as Mirand Boyde, Miranda Flinn and Miranda Smith. Miranda also acts as a servant to her mother. The plaintiffs claim that while Miranda was pregnant she could not perform her duties as servant. Plaintiffs further claim that she became gloomy, thus depriving them of their daughters services as well as her good character.

Additional defendants: John Crawford exec. of James Crawford dec. 1846, company of Fitzsimmons & Crawford (testate a partner) entered into Bill of Exchange: six months term for John Blaiz to pay to John Cox sum of $900 at Western Bank of Baltimore. Suit was result of failure of defendants to honor the agreement; the bank sought total of $1500 for money owed, interest and damages.
