Case is incomplete; brief only. In Nov. of 1874 Thomas L. Branson executed a deed of trust to J.W.Branson for a parcel of land in Union County. Deed was made to secure a debt due A. A. Baker who was named in the deed. In 1876, debt due Baker had not been See ET Box 1871: paid- the land was sold by the Trustee, J.W. Branson and purchased by Baker. Later Baker took a trust deed for land. At the time trust deed was executed, T. L. Branson was legal owner of land. Conveyance was bona fide. |

Case file incomplete; brief only. In May, 1883 Acuff contracted with Cox to sell him a tract of land in Raccoon Valley containing about 130 acres. Price for the land was $800.00. Cox paid about $450.00. and executed a note for the remainder. At the time See ET Box 1871 as well - no deed or title was drawn as some surveying needed to be done. Cox became very ill and Acuff was advised to draw up a deed but kept the deed in his possession. Cox recovered and refused to acknowledge deed as was written. |

Gibbs and James Carter in which Ogg recovered judgment against them for $6000. Leinart, Skaggs & Popejoy, Baker, and Davault all brought separate cases against Gibbs et al.. Concerns land deeded by plaintiff to defendant 9 Dec. 1865. The case materials relate that Haynes Sr. was indicted for treason at the end of the Civil War. Knowing that most individuals indicted for treason at that time were stripped of their property, his son talked him into deeding his land to him to hold until such time as everything could be settled. Plaintiff conveyed a tract of land to his son, Calaway Kelly, with the stipulation that the land could not be sold without the plaintiff's consent. Calaway sold the land to Roland Mettabarger, the now deceased husband of Polly Mettabarger, without giving notice to his father. Calaway then died. |

In 1883, without the plaintiff's consent, George Petree and his wife signed over the deed and registered the land to Henry Berry who then sold it to Joseph Ellison.
