Charge: Curtis Roach, Bob Denny & Lula Denny abducted Dorothy Arnold for the purpose of prostitution & concubine. Roach was accused of having sexual relations with Dorothy for over a year before she was allegedly kidnapped. She said Curtis had promised to marry her. Some testimony regards the boys at the CCC camp. Plaintiff in error was originally charged with burglary, larceny, and kidnapping. According to the state, plaintiff and several other men, including one named Steve Van Deusen robbed the Bank of Spring City then kidnapped A. H. Pittman who happened to be nearby. Pittman claims the men treated him well. Walker was arrested after exchanging gunfire with a police officer. |

Blanche Taylor was 15-year-old daughter of William Taylor when she met Riggs on a train. He was 25. Letters were exchanged between them. In one, Riggs proposed marriage, and she accepted. State argues that he enticed her for purpose of prostitution and the proposal was a device to gratify his lust. Their plan was to go to Kentucky to be married then on to Canada. Riggs, Wallace, and one Duncan carried Blanche away; Wallace later "proceeded to carnally know her twice." Additional part of case in ET 1392. |

In September 1844 Nancy Winters "had the misfortune to intermarry with one Joseph Winters… whom for many reasons not to be here detailed, as she is abused", feared violence at his hands." Nancy left him and refused to live with him or have any children with him (though she was pregnant at the time of the marriage). After Malissy's [?] birth Joseph nabbed the baby at a camp meeting and would not return her. Separate document is dated 1849. |

Defendant is accused of abducting Fannie James, 14, from her father and mother, J. E. and Susan James. Fannie and Virgil were carrying on a relationship and were being forced to marry by J. E. James, who was threatening to get the law involved if they did not. It appears that Fannie and Virgil did attempt to get marriage license, but Fannie died from eating a poisonous pear before they could. Case file notes that the victim had left home before, seeking escape from her family who she described as cruel. |
