Defs say wheat not on Bale's land, but land owned by Elizabeth, wife of Charles (now dec) & daughter of Wm Rowan who lived at mouth of Beech Creek & drowned in Holston River, & her claim is through her dad, who purchased from Michael Montgomery who had NC grant. |

Jacob Baker died intestate, his land then partitioned by the heirs, & H. Stephens, Martha's husband, appointed agent to sell the land. It was sold to Mr. Cleburne, who then sold to W. Porter. This suit sought to ify these sales of the land, & return it to the heirs. Martha was placed in an asylum, making her husband the heir to the land. However, the paperwork filed with the court initially left out Martha's incompetency, & therefore were faulty in naming the appropriate heirs. |

Bridges owned 80 acres of land in Hiwassee District & claimed Guinn ejected them from it. As the court put it, Bridges had a "younger grant [to the land] founded upon the elder entry" & Guinn had the reverse, "the elder grant but the younger entry." The Bridges' claim was through Caroline's dad Dennis C. Murphy. Guinn's claim was through a man named Reynolds said to be the first settler of the land, & Guinn was in possession of the land when Murphy died. |

Cowan sued Nicholas Smith for ejecting him from land to which he held title. During suit, Nicholas died & suit revived against his 3 minor children (Hugh, Amanda, Clarissa) for whom their grandfather Thomas Smith served as guardian. After initial mistrial 2nd jury ruled in favor of Def.. Dispute was over competing claims of title to 100 acres of land "up and down the Branch." Frazier was security for Nicholas Smith. |

Casey sued McFall for cutting timber from Casey's land & converting it to McFall's use, and also for rent McFall owed Casey. Dispute revolves around boundary line between Casey's land & McFall's adjoining land. Others involved: Solomon Wyrick, William Wyrick & Martin Wyrick, who at one point were in possession of some portion of disputed land, & who (with McFall) were defendants in previous lawsuit brought by Casey. |
