The plaintiff is the son of the defendant. He and his mother purchased a piece of property together and built a house there. It was supposed to revert to the son after his mother's death, but the father managed to put his name on the property and refused to allow his son to move into the house.

View Entry 1889 Ella Isbell v. William Davenport, et al. Cannon Land and Title Dispute

Additional defendants: F.M. Jones and Grady Jones. Isbell sued defendants for rights to land, which were sold to P.C. Isbell by decree against Edmund Monroe, dec. for debt. However, defendants refused to give up land they were tenant to and threatened to shoot anyone who tried to eject them. Isbell also wanted receiver to take charge of corn crop on land to prevent defendants from using, selling, or destroying the crop.

View Entry 1891 H. H. Rodgers v. W. T. Todd Cannon Land and Title Dispute

Plaintiff claims he is the rightful owner of a tract of land located in the 4th Civil District of Cannon County near Stone's River and has been for seven years. Plaintiff further claims that while in possession of said land he built a house and mill, cultivated the land, and harvested timber. Plaintiff complains the defendant is now claiming ownership of part of the property and is seeking an injunction restricting him from taking possession. Exhibit material includes map on page 30.

Dispute over a tract of land in Cannon County that consisted of 175 acres of land. The defendant owned land boarding to that of Vaser. Vaser claimed that Mitchell devised a plan to cheat and defraud him out of his land for less than half its worth by preying on his creditablity and fears by falas eand fraudulent respresntation that someone was about to sue him for a large claim.

Other plaintiffs: B. F. Lawrence, J. Hawkins. Other defendants: D. B. Evans, Benjamin Cummings, B. F. Lawrence, E. U. Walkup, & J. B. Hawkins. Interesting note -- some of the plaintiffs are also defendants. Case concerns the purchase of property for the building of a school. Issues concern paying the contractors, dealing with an overpayment from a previous judgment, and the problem of sub-dividing the land.

Too many additional plaintiffs and defendants to note. Surnames include: Ready, Smithson, Reed, Willard, Herriman, McReady, Bogle, and Keaton. All parties are the heirs of Lucretia Ready. Plaintiffs bring suit complaining that William Ready dec. (son of Lucretia Ready) and James Ready dec. (husband of Lucretia Ready) defrauded Lucretia by selling her land to pay the debts of James and then purchasing the same land in Williams’s name.

View Entry 1888 William L. Preston & wife v. Thomas Ledbetter, et al. Cannon Land and Title Dispute

William L. Preston's wife is Susan Preston. Additional defendants: Richard R. Sullens, James Walls, James Meritt. The case lists Susan as a "feme sole," being the widow of John Fitzpatrick, at the time she purchased a tract of land from Sullens. She claimed that Sullens convinced her not to have it recorded that the title he gave her was good enough. At a later time, Sullens had a bond recorded for his property that reached into the property he sold Susan.
