Whiteside, dec., Robert Cravens (an executor of James' estate) agreed that Cravens would sell and convey to Harriet 4 acres of land using funds from her husband who was a stockholder in East TN Iron Manufacturing. Settlement had no mention of her rights to 4 acres of land. Harriet does not blame heirs for omission but was due to her mistake and forgetfulness. Peck indebted to Gen. Brazelton (who had market in New Market after which town was named; the 2 had history of financial dealings). Secured debt w/deed on 1,000 acres, w/Dick as trustee. On advice of Peck's 2 sons W.R. & Isham T. (visiting from Louisiana), & in effort to settle up, Peck deeded 200+ acres of this land to Brazelton; Peck says intended as mtg. Brazelton took possession of this 200+ acres, leading Peck to file this suit. NOTE: Peck, TN Supreme Court judge from 1822-34, died in 1869. |

Robinson, plaintiff, and Ragan, defendant, made a contracted that in which Ragan would give a tract of land consisting of 361 acres in exchange for Robinson paying $10,830--$7500 of which was paid with three slaves. Defendant gave Robinson bond for title and Robinson gave him a note and the slaves. Ragan owned only half interest on said land, yet promised complete title to Robinson, who asks the court to sell Ragan's interest in said land and proceeds used to satisfy sum he paid. |

Anderson had bought a tract 300 acres from James D. Rhea in 1862. Talbot had obtained a judgment against William G. Rutledge and Rhea, his surety. A tract of 113 acres was levied and sold to Talbot, and Anderson charged that said tract was part and parcel of the tract sold to him by Rhea three years before. |

Add. defendants: J.E. Houston, A.J. Hicks, E.E. Griffith, John A. Stephens, W.L. Eakin, & J.I. Wright. In 1840, the plaintiff purchased from one Enos C. Hooper a tract of 200 acres of land for which he paid $400, to be paid one year from date and Hooper executed a bond for the title. In order to build a home and pay debts, the plaintiff allowed the legal title to be made to his brother in law J.A. Stephens, who later had a judgment rendered against him for debts and the land was listed as his property. |

Nancy Buren is represented by her Next Friend Harrison Singleton. Additional defendant: James P. Raulsto. Nancy Buren is the wife of Henry Buren and widow of Hugh L. W. Singleton. This is a land dispute regarding the conveyance of land from Henry Buren to Nancy Buren as well as the matter of collected rent from said land. The casefile notes that Henry Buren owned land and twenty slaves but was severely financially affected by the war. |

Garner & wife Susan, both free, owned land off of Broadway. Garner gave Susan power of attorney & she sold the land to David Kalear, who paid $600 in advance, but never paid the debt off. Susan then left Nashville for Canada with an enslaved man, belonging to William Hoon, named Edmond who had recently emancipated himself. The nephews of Philip Garner, William & Henry, sued to get the remainder of the value of the property. Pages 204-235 missing. See Jamison v. Kalear in same box. |

Jane sued Gleason and McBride, partners in trade in NYC under the firm name W.F. Gleason & Co. Jane and his father, Wyatt, had bought tract of land commonly known as the Cove Creek ore bank. Jane made verbal contract with his father and sold his tract for $36 and authorized him to sell it. Suit over the succeeding complex title dispute between the parties. Jane wanted plaintiffs restrained from entering land or exercising ownership over it and the Warranty Deed declared and void. |

Samuel McCarthy had bought a house and lot in Knoxville from William Morrow. After paying the purchase money in full, plaintiff had Morrow vest the title to his children, the defendants, not realizing that it would prevent him from disposing of said land. Samuel brought suit to get title divested from his children and vested in himself. |

Others involved: W. K. Vance and _. B. Westmoreland. Bill filed by the heirs of T. D. Arnold. Arnold, as auditor of Vance, filed an attachment bill against him and had the attachment levied. This was in May 1865. In 1868, the land was decreed to be sold. Westmoreland claimed to have commenced an action on the original attachment 10 days before Arnold. |
