In 1884 the deft. filed a bill in the Scott Co. Chancery Ct. for the sale of 2010 acres in that county to satisfy a judgment in its favor & against A. J. C. Robbins. Plntff. paid $2,250 for what he believed was the entire tract, but learned 500 acres had had been excepted out of the decree without his knowledge. This 500 acres was heavily timbered & had induced the plntff. to buy the tract in the first place. He alleged the deft. had defrauded him by exempting this land. |

Defendant conveyed to defendant that he held a perfect title to the land and the defendant paid $9,000 for the land. In reality, part of the land was owned by the Southern Railway Company. Exhibit materials include a photograph of building scaffolding, several maps of lots on different streets, and a hand written Abstract of Title to the land. |

The Roane Iron Co. was engaged in the mining of coal and iron and manufacture of coke and pig iron. In April 1890, the plaintiff purchased $2,300 worth of lots in Rockwood and alleges that the defendant purposefully and fraudulently promoted the town's endless resources to draw in buyers, when the supply of coal was, in fact, exhausted. Moyers charges Sharp & Houston for cheating and defrauding her of a valuable tract of 100 acres. Houston pressured Moyer to sign deed in which Houston promised to pay $25 a year for 5 years for lands he claimed was worth little. Houston gave note for $125 (for land Moyers found out was worth $800-900), which he never paid. Houston then fraudulently conveyed land to Sharp to avoid vendors lien in scheme to not pay for land. Moyers asks their deeds be made void and land given back. |

On 27 July 1889 Auger sold to Smith 14 lots in Chattanooga for sum of $7000. In return Smith deeded to him 1335 acres in Jackson Co., MS for $4000. Deft. represented MS land as worth $3.00 per acre. Plntff. had not seen the land for himself at the time, but took deft. at his word. Upon visiting the land plntff. found it of poor quality & largely owned by other persons. He charged deft. with intentionally defrauding him of $3666.25, the difference between $4000 & land's true value (25 cents per acre). |

Churchwell agreed to buy Rhea's stallion for $1,000, payable in the form of 320 acres of land in Arkansas Territory, 100-120 acres of which was cane bottom land on one side of creek & 200-220 acres on the other side, 12 miles from Little Rock. When he had the land examined, Rhea discovered it was worthless, that none of it was cane bottom land, & not more than 10-15 acres of the land was even tolerable. Rhea filed this suit to have his contract with Churchwell rescinded. |

The plaintiff inherited a tract of land from her father, David H. Jones (dec.), and later married Spencer Suter, who immediately took possession of it. Soon after, the defendant and one Clinton A. Suter took measures to defraud the plaintiff out of her rights to the land by a deed of conveyance, making her sign it as a minor under 18 years old. Burem later took full possession of the land. Plaintiff's guardian at the time, Jacob Miller, acted in bad faith by advising her to sign the deed. |

Bray altered the original deed with the lawyer to give all of the land without a lieu or payment without her consent or knowledge. |

Langston owned an 81-acre tract and earned enough to support himself and his wife Dicey and their daughter Elizabeth (also Emaline). She married Eli Harper. In 1866, Langston deeded the land to Harper for $7,000. The bond executed was for only $1,000, but Harper promised lifetime support for the Langstons. Dicey died in 1869, and P. J. married within days. He charged fraud because Eli slacked on his responsibilities. Court considered all the parties ignorant and "in a state of low morals." |

Templin filed suit to have the court set aside a land title acquired by defendant Taylor from Samuel Templin, who issued the title for a note to get money to move to Florida. When Samuel, a minor, died in Florida, Taylor kept the land and property but the plaintiff, Samuel's brother, claimed that Taylor had lied and plotted to get Samuel to move to Florida and sign over his land. He requested the conveyance be declared fraudulent. All parties were African American. |
