The 2 Skillerns, Miller & Smith formed partnership to speculate in mountain lands, including 10,000 acres in Hamilton County. Per consent of partners, Smith went north to try to sell land & did sell land to Dr. Joseph Evans of New York, in exchange for land in Village of Jamaica, Long Island, NY. Plaintiffs sued Smith to account for proceeds of sale. |

Shelby (aka Jack) was free man of color, Margaret was white woman, both poor & illiterate, & they jointly bought 50-acre tract & adjoining house from Benjamin Sr. Title issued only to Prater. Webb procured (by fraud, Plaintiffs say) from Benjamin Sr a deed to 307-acre tract of which 50 acres was part. Shelby, while slave, accompanied masters to King's Mountain & to Horse Shoe battlefields to fight British. |

Carmichael and her six children with only a tract of land to their name. D. Carmichael was named administrator to the estate and deed to the land, which he bought to cover debts on the estate. J. Carmichael impeaches Hunt as Sherriff who sold the land, to which she is entitled a dower. |

Dispute over Lot 29 in Taylorsville, TN. Defs. recovered judgment against John Tomlin, execution on that judgment was levied on said lot, & Colvard bought the lot at the public sale. Plaintiff filed a writ of ejectment & won, & Defs. appealed to SC. Greene Moore was chairman of Taylorsville's commission of public buildings & made the deeds for the lots, including lot at issue. Transcript includes hand drawn map of lots 1-40. Roans Creek ran near town. |

Murphy agreed to convey 40 acres on Stacey's Branch to Tallent, as soon as Murphy could get a grant from the state (because his claim to the land was an entry). And Tallent would convey to Murphy 50 acres (Bill Johnson tract). 40 acres not conveyed. Instead, Murphy sold it to Joseph McCall & moved to Missouri. Testimony: claims of intoxication, bribery, that Tallent lived with Avis Williams who wasn't his wife, that Murphy moved due to son's conduct, that witness Polly Smith was mentally deranged. |
