Additonal defendants Samuel Cowan, Mary Cowan aka Turk Brady. Kilter purchased land from Cowan who clailmed to own a homestead with whom he called his wife. Samuel Cowas was a man of color and Mary Cowas was a white woman. They were not married by law. Kilter was looking to to pay off the balance for the land and was also seeking the court to state that Mary Cowan could not in the future seek money for the homestead or claim ownership.

Plaintiff was a large retail merchant from Boston, MA that sued to collect a debt owed H. A. Bateman. Bateman had entered into a land transaction with the defendant for a valuable lot on Summer St, the main shopping district of downtown Nashville. Additional defendants: F. M. Woodall, sheriff of Davidson Co. Several other County cases are mentioned.

The plaintiff stated to the court that he owned a certain tract of land. A corner of the land was not included in the orgianl survey. Both parties claimed ownership of the tract. The plaintiff was asking the court to not let anyone use the land until the court decided who has the right to claim the land. 2 folders.

Additional defendants: David DeArmond Jr., Jane Payne, Joseph Payne, Mary Payne, John Wrinkle Sr. and Saphronica Wrinkle. Case was to determine who owned what land.

He remarried to Joanna-they did not have children. Dispute is over several tracts of land John owned jointly with Lewis Gee. Additional plaintiff Austin Guymm and G. Crosswhite. They plaitiffs were the adoptive children of one Samuel L. Love dec. Land was left to the Love family through wills. Both the plaintiff and the defendants claimed to be the rightful owener of said land.
