Susie Davis, "a negro woman," shot & killed C. Robert Smith, "a negro man" in front of her home on Willow St., Knoxville. Smith was living in the Davis home, and while there "began going with her widowed daughter, Gertrude Taylor." Though not married, Gertrude & Smith moved to a house in Cruze Alley. Davis often called upon her daughter to help w/housework, which Smith resented. The day of the shooting, Gertrude was at her mother's house & Smith came to forcibly take her home. |

William McBee was put on trial for murder but charged with voluntary manslaughter. He shot through a door during an argument and killed Sally Clayton. He claims that when she slammed a door the gun accidentally went off and fired through the door. Sally Clayton did not die instantly and William McBee did take her to the hospital. |
