Hankins, Herbert Layle (Hobart Layel), Sam Roach, Robert Headrick, John Miller, Peter Fugate (also hit by a bullet) & J. A. Sampson (also Simpson). Shooting occurred near Beets filling station at Tate Springs, Tenn., as result of the theft of 4 bottles of motor oil. |

Susie Davis, "a negro woman," shot & killed C. Robert Smith, "a negro man" in front of her home on Willow St., Knoxville. Smith was living in the Davis home, and while there "began going with her widowed daughter, Gertrude Taylor." Though not married, Gertrude & Smith moved to a house in Cruze Alley. Davis often called upon her daughter to help w/housework, which Smith resented. The day of the shooting, Gertrude was at her mother's house & Smith came to forcibly take her home. |
