Watson was accused of the murder of Sam Hall. On October 15, 1929, Watson shot Hall twice with a shotgun on land subject to Hall's life estate. Watson was Hall's son-in-law by wife, Lorene. After Watson used Hall's mules the day before, they were a little beat up around the mouth. Hall threatened Watson's life and cursed him. Watson secured a shotgun, and returned to picking cotton. Hall advanced on Watson with something in his hand, Watson retrieved the gun, and fired twice in self-defense. In 2 folders. |

After Brandon said to Maddie Cash not to go out to Thomas, Thomas Drew his pistol and shot at Brandon twice. Brandon drew his pistol and fired 5 times killing Thomas. Incomplete case file. Cox, night policeman of Humboldt, killed Carl Ladd and Gaston Croom after they attempted to run him over. Cox thought a car, driven by Ladd, matched the description of a stolen car, and tried to stop the vehicle speeding down Main Street. The car swerved to hit Cox, missed, and turned around tried again, left and came back to try a third time. Cox attempted to shoot out a tire, but missed and hit Ladd. The bullet passed through Ladd and lodged in Croom, killing the later instantly. Ladd died in the road. |
