Tillery wasaccused of stabbing and murdering N. B. Martin. On the night of the murder Tillery was among a group of people gathered at Martin's home to hear him play the fiddle. Tillery began using vulgar language, and Martin demanded that he stop. Tillery refused, and he and Martin began fighting. Martin was stabbed during the altercation. Martin was married to Sarah Martin. |

Hacker stabbed Wesley Ford with a knife, causing instant death. Fight erupted between Hacker & Ford when Ford was at Hacker's house for dinner, & was preceded by controversy between Hacker & stepfather Brown earlier in the day at barn. Lots of testimony. Then-attorney general James B. Cooke retained to defend Hacker before being appointed AG, so temporary AG appointed. Jurors couldn't agree on verdict, so mistrial; in 2nd trial, Hacker found not guilty of 1st or 2nd degree murder, guilty of manslaughter. |

Defendant was charged with first degree murder, tried and convicted and sentenced to serve thirty years in the State Penitentiary. Defendant was jointly indicted with Carl Hickman, Aldie Bunch who were alleged to have killed one Bill Bunch, 8 Oct. 1930, and to have secreted deceased's body in the Hiwassee River near where he was murdered. The body was recovered from the river, June 1931. |
