View Entry | 1851 | State v. Julius Hacker | Meigs | Murder |
Hacker stabbed Wesley Ford with a knife, causing instant death. Fight erupted between Hacker & Ford when Ford was at Hacker's house for dinner, & was preceded by controversy between Hacker & stepfather Brown earlier in the day at barn. Lots of testimony. Then-attorney general James B. Cooke retained to defend Hacker before being appointed AG, so temporary AG appointed. Jurors couldn't agree on verdict, so mistrial; in 2nd trial, Hacker found not guilty of 1st or 2nd degree murder, guilty of manslaughter. |
