In 1924 John Parton shot & killed Joe Rector. Parton & Williams were drunk, walking down the road, past the Rector home, on their way to visit a prostitute, Ida Bohanan. During testimony Parton tried to frame Williams, blaming him for the shooting, though Williams remained on the road during the incident. File includes a request for pardon, letters in support of Williams, petitions, all advocating for clemency. Exhibits: 3 photographs. Excellent description of area's social culture. |
