Adolph Dutch was a jail guard who took his prisoner, Andy Williams, to look for a watch he had stolen and hidden near Birds Mill, 6 miles from Chattanooga. On their journey Williams hit Dutch from behind, killing him. |

When out in the wood, the Glovers heard a shot then Arrants returned quite shaken. Both Arrants & Richards were seen leaving the area soon after, & were accused of murdering the dec'd. Case mentions no name of dec'd, & no first names of the accused. |

Near midnight, defendant remarked that there was his cousin dancing with "Big Sis," a reference to Joe's wife. This offended Mrs. Williams, so she sought and received an apology; Joe asked likewise. During an argument over money, the Martins & Frank Peery assaulted Connie Sullivan (male) with a gun and shot him to death. They were convicted of voluntary manslaughter. Top binding could not be removed w/o damage to the document. Exhibit accompanying Mrs. Sullivan's testimony is a hand-drawn floor plan of the house in which the murder took place. Individuals who were standing in the room are identified by one initial each. Floor plan is on the back of a Raulstons Dry Cleaning shirt box. |

Hayle testified that Stewart was a young bootlegger with a temper who employed foul language. The night of the shooting he was verbally ass- faulting Hayle and his wife, while brandishing a knife. Witnesses testified that Hayle suffers mental illness caused by pelagra. |
