W.A. Moody had sold several tracts of land to Harris for $10,000 who paid half in cash and the rest in 3 promissory notes-one for $2500 and the other two for $1,250 each all of which were unpaid. Lien was retained for payment of purchase money. Harris had sold and conveyed the lands to Ramsey. Plaintiffs sought to enforce his lien on land and sell them and use proceeds to satisfy debt. |

Guthrie partitioned his land and sold lots. N. L. Jackson (plots 16 & 17) and J. S. Rhea (plot 18) decided to jointly repay Guthrie through promissory notes. Not all of the amount the due has been repaid, and Guthrie is seeking recompense. Jackson and Rhea also refigured their deeds to include parts of each other's plots. |

Sproles sued Powell for unpaid purchase money due him for a tract of land sold by him to Powell in early 1850s. Despite obtaining judgment for payment of notes issued by Powell to Sproles, Powell refused to pay and sued in another lawsuit against Sproles accusing him of selling him land that did not belong to him. Records were destroyed in fire. |

Gamble had sold to Everett in 1862 a tract of 165 acres, part of the old Lowry Farm, for $2325. Everett paid him $725 in Confederate currency, which he had no problem with, and issued 2 promissory notes of $800 and $700 to be paid in current funds. Later, Everett offered to pay Gamble $1000 in Confederate currency to which Everett refused due to its depreciating value. Gamble suing for purchase money in good notes for the land he sold to Everett. |

Tipton had bought tract of land from Hurst in 1859 using notes, including $875 in bank notes which were executed in the Bank of Tennessee. Note was assigned to Walker in 1861. During war, defendants were Confederates and Walker a Unionist. Walker was forced to accept Confederate money as payment for the note. Walker now suing defendants to enforce a lien on the land for the unpaid purchase money, charging that the Confederate money was fraudulent and not a payment at all. |

Plaintiffs sued, claiming $10,935 in timber sale proceeds had not been credited towards the notes that were due. |
