Hale owned 100 acres of county land on Kindrick's Creek, acquired via state grant, which land was part of 140-acre tract claimed by Whelock [Willock?], who allegedly purchased the land from Austin Choate, heir of Christopher Choate [Chote?], who acquired it via a 1787 grant (No. 773) from NC. This dispute revolves around a portion of the 100-acre tract claimed by both Hale & Whelock. Hale filed this lawsuit to ask the court to partition the land between the parties. |

O'Brien brothers had agreed to pay $125 for Simpson's horse. Sale was on a Sunday and horse delivered to them. Simpson did not take O'Briens' note because it was Sabbath and def'ts agreed to come back another day to pay for the horse, which they never did. They held onto horse for unreasonable time without asking to return it to Simpson but then the horse died. Simpson sues for $130.98 in damages. Def't call for new trial, which is refused, and then they appeal. |

The plaintiffs sold and conveyed to the defendant Sampson a tract of land for payment of $600, with faith they would receive the money through time. Sampson then conveyed the same land to W. Brock for a mule worth $70 and $600 in Confederate money. The plaintiffs filed the bill after no money was paid by Sampson and the Confederate money he was paid was illegal and worthless and the mule belonged to another person. The plaintiffs want the money promised them as Sampson had no payment from Brock. |

Prior to the incident Barrett, an ex-soldier & tramp printer, had been examined at 2 hospitals & diagnosed with dementia praecox. His condition was not considered serious enough to warrant confinement. The Grants rented from Barrett, who boarded with them. Under the terms of their agreement the Grants were to keep the defendant's room clean, a task which usually fell to their daughter, Lena. |

Swingle asked Smith to split his pay with Fanny Smith, who Swingle wanted to teach his girls, but Smith refused, so commissioners dismissed him. Smith's wife assisted in the teaching.
