In November of 1861 Parker & Hassell formed a partnership buying and selling sugar and molasses. They later parted ways but failed to legally dissolve the partnership. Parker was indebted to Hassell. In 1867 John Washburn sold a plot of land to James M. Sorrels for $1270. At the time of the sale Moore & Thomison held a mortgage on the land, & therefore became real beneficiaries to the land sale, as mortgage holders. In the sale Moore took from Sorrels two notes from James G. Harrison, for $466 each, taken as collateral for repayment of the debt. Suit was filed to call in the debt. |

Anderson sued for liability on a $1000 bill from October 1860 which was removed from the bank and debt never paid. Planters Bank had brought suit against defendants, including Anderson, and won. Anderson was compelled to pay the $1000. Now he's suing to be held accountable only as accom. Endorser. |

Keeler sold land to Baker who agreed to pay for the land in installments as well as help take care of Keeler who was growing old. Keeler claims Baker failed to make payments. Keeler also claims that Baker was cruel to him, laughing when he was in pain and lying to him. The case file mentions that Keeler may be senile as well as an alcoholic. Case file also notes that land doubled in value during the time of the arrangement. |

John Porter sold William and Felix an unnamed enslaved man. The sale was paid with a note. Later Felix worked in his still house & dropped his purse containing his valuable papers into the fire. All of the papers including the note for this sale were consumed. Felix begged that the debt be forgiven. |

In 1843 land belongong to Thomas Patton, then deceased, was sold to an ancestor of Stephens. Martin the obtained a decree in chancery court against Patton's estate, for $370 which was declared a lien on the land that had been purchased by Martin.
