P. P. Pickard was comptroller for the state, who sued S. P. Cook and several men who were sureties for the "official bond" of Cook as sheriff, who was appointed Sept 1, 1884. Pickard alleged that Cook broke his bond to the County when his deputy and jailor, Joe D. Crockett claimed he was coming into a large sale, but money from such sale was never paid to the bank. The bank loaned money to buy merchant goods, and Crockett testified that he would settle debts to his in-laws before the bank. Includes assignment of error appeal filed by plaintiff. |
