A. M. Bishop & Co. was based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Debt was incurred by defendant when land was purchased in Memphis.

The defendant was a mechanic under the employment of the defendants to furnish the materials and labor necessary to $500.00. After the completion of the job, the plaintiff asked for his pay, but was refused with the promise it would come in a few days. The defendants paid $5.00 on their balance, but no more.

Additional Defendants: John Mitchell, and Richard Nuckols.

Plaintiff sued for debt by unpaid note in the sum of $500, created in 1863. This was an apparent pattern by the defendant to fail to pay his executed notes for large sums, according to the plaintiff.

Defendant is justly indebted to the plaintiff in the sum of $410 plus interest on an account of a note due to the plaintiff. The defendant has no personal property except a tract of land.

Add. defendants: Samuel A. White, F.W. Vanuxern, Elizabeth Vanuxern, William Kennedy, James Kennedy, & William Swan. J. Nicholas is justly indebted to the plaintiffs in the sum of $543.33, which is evidenced by a note of hand. The sum is the purchase money for a tract of land after an initial $110 was paid by the defendant. Other defendants were employers or creditors for the purchase, and the bill includes an injunction to prevent W. Swan from taking possession of goods after paying the balance.

The Board of Publication of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church paid Hughes and Rives to build structures. Hughes and Rives contracted to purchase stone for the construction from Bedford Stone, however they did not pay the bill. Bedford Stone seeks payment from the Board of Publication in the form of a lien.

The Defendants bought a company from J.N. Megibbin and the plaintiffs were owed money by Megibbin. The claim here is that Dunn & AL are delaying and defrauding the plaintiffs as creditors of Megibbin.

Additional defendants in Denney v. McNeil include Anna B. McNeil, O. Sneed, Davis and Ella Hunter, S. Mebane and wife Fredonia Mebane, Alonzo Wright and Maud Wright, Tim and Lizzie Barham. Case concerns debt owed on property purchased from Denney. Second lawsuit is a "cross bill" counter lawsuit to the first one.

Add. plaintiffs: Ann McGhee, Margaret McGhee, Lavinia McGhee, & John McGhee, all minors sued by their next friend, B.M. McGhee. Plea of debt due by note in the sum of $459.

Plaintiff was partner with defendants in a company that sold tobacco, named C.V. Ezell & Co. However, prior, Ezell owned a business with just C.V. Ezell, individually, as the title. He retained some contracts wi that heading only. Ezell did a job for W. D. Humphreys using the contract "C.V. Ezell" individually and the defendants agreed to it. When the crop didn't bring the agreed upon amount, Ezell, and only Ezell, was sued because his was the only name on the contract. 2 folders.

Debt was from a rental of land. Amount of debt was $231.77.

Additional defendants: James Summer, Charles Summer, and John J. Knox (comptroller). Detailed ownership history of a tract a land, especially discussing Peter Lawry and a deed of mortgage with the Freedman's Saving and Trust Company. When a William Summer passes away, the land is left to his son, George, and his grandsons James and Charles Summer. They own $1100 to the U.S. government and the Freedman's Bank. Case within two folders.

Partee was originally sued due to a promissory note that had gone unpaid by his firm Vernon Partte & Clay which he was the surviving partner. May had been appointed the receiver of the Bank of West Tennessee. Later when he attempted to pay the judgment May would not accept the form of payment.

Defendant bought several tracts of land from plaintiff for $46,000. Defendant paid $36,000 in Confederate money and executed note for remaining $10,000. Defendant failed to pay balance of debt and tried to send two Negro men to plaintiff to settle the debt, but the men were estimated at combined $6,000, and later found out they were actually free men. Confederate money then lost value and plaintiff now suing for balance plus interest lost.

Plaintiff is the administrator of the estate of George Love (dec.) and executor of the will of C. Sevier (dec.). Add. defendants: John A. Brown, Rebecca L. Brown, & John S. Love, Admr. Defendant is indebted to the plaintiff for $1,891, due by note.

William Philibent served as surety for Dennis Sexton.

Add. plaintiffs: Allen Collier & E. B. Edwards. Add. defendants: J. W. Leigh, W. B. Hope, Louisa Seigler, & Sam W. Seigler. In 1870, the plaintiffs sold to the defendants certain tracts of land and real estate for which they executed several promissory notes. The plaintiffs retained a lien on the property for the payments, which remained wholly unpaid, except for $750 paid in cash.

Other plaintiff: W. H. Brown, for whom Mallory is trustee. Magee bought property from Brown and has not paid the amount due by this time.

Turman owned a store, and Merriman came to the store to get a check cash. Merriman claimed that Turman mistakenly failed to pay Merriman the entire amount of the check, and accordingly, owed a debt to Merriman for the balance.
