Consolidated case of D. K. Self v. Teleford Ag. & Man. Co. and West, treasurer of the Elders and Deacons of Salem Church v. G. W. Teleford et al. Telford owned two mill sites on Milestone creek at Telford Station, which he sold to the Telford Ag., who still owed money on notes for the sale. When the company later failed, the plaintiffs, as creditors of the company, filed the bill to settle the company affairs and sell the real-estate of the insolvent company to recover their funds. |

Defendant: James N. Dosser. In 1866, Bluford Thomson owned the land in dispute. Bowman had built a saw mill for him and done other work for which he took Thomson's note. Thornburgh executed $100 note in favor of Harris, who gave Confederate money (rebel money) for the note, which Thornburgh used to pay another debt & to pay a high price for medicine. Dispute over whether Confederate money qualified as consideration. Thornburgh argued no consideration for note, since Confederate money not recognized by law as money at all & had no legal value. |

The suit was filed by a poor farmer for an accounting and cancellation of certain debts and trust deeds, and for an injunction to restrain the foreclosure of the trust. He had borrowed money from Isbell, whose interest rates were characterized by the plaintiff's attorney as "usurious." |

Plaintiffs were awarded a judgment against the McNelly for repayment of $676.90 in Dekalb County in 1879. McNelly never paid the judgment. The plaintiffs claimed that in 1888, MCNelly promised to pay the amount when he was able, thereby validating the plaintiffs new claim to the debt many years later. |

Bayles failed to pay the judgment within 6 mos., so Cannon brought this lawsuit to recover the judgment. |

Lindsey died in 1869 leaving a will. Henderson had executed a note to Lindsey in 1869 for $1077 for nine bales of cotton. Lindsey bought a tract of land from Henderson that had been levied and sold by Rutherford County. They will not hand over the deed until money is paid by Lindsey's estate, which Cooper was attempting to recover from Henderson. |
