Plaintiff desires a petition for mandamus. On 2 May 1853 the county voted to take $50,000 of stock in the Knoxville & KY RR Co. In July 1854 the court directed the chairman of the court to subscribe $50,000 in the railroad's stock by issued bonds. Since that time work has begun on the railroad, but in the April term of the County Court an order was made refusing to issue the bonds unless compelled to do so by law. |

Court-appointed commissioners James Lillard, George W. McKenzie & Joseph McCorkle laid off a "year's support" for Rachel Doughty, widow of James Doughty. Pleasant Doughty, one of James Doughty's heirs, took exception to their report on the grounds that the amount of provisions set aside for the widow was "extravagant" & unjust to the heirs. Court agreed & reappointed the commissioners to lay off a new dower for the widow, who appealed the decision. Other heirs of James Doughty not named. |

Laura McLaren & Harry Blakemore married and had one child. He later abandoned them and then Laura died in October 1872. After they were abandoned, Pierce took them and provided for them. Laura had 1/4 interest in a tract of land formerly own by her deceased father, Reuben McLaren. The infant had no given name or guardian. Therefore Pierce was petitioning on behalf of the child to receive Lauren's interest. |
