Metcalf, 17, who resided w/his widowed mom in Erwin, TN, & other Defs convicted of stealing 6 chickens from residence of Jim Coffee (blind), sentenced to 1 yr, 1 day jail. Defs. talked about stealing chickens while at church earlier that night, but Metcalf says he stopped at Coffee's gate, didn't go in. After theft, Defs. all went to river, sold chickens for whiskey. Young boy Jake Tipton also involved, but state used him as witness against others. |
