J. J. Hargrave was the wife of J. B. Hargrave. W. H. Hyronemous obtained a judgment against J. B. and J. J. Hargrave in the case of "W. H. Hyronemous v. B. H. Hargrave, et al." As a result, an execution was levied upon plaintiff's stock of goods in their furniture store known as Hargrove Bros. located at 418 Broad St. in Nashville. Plaintiffs filed suit to replevin their property. J. B. Hargrave was the second husband of J. J. Hargrave. Her first husband (deceased) was named Smith.

Turner & Co. sued to recover 8000 pounds of bacon unlawfully seized and detained by defendants.

Mike Hays had in his possession a two year-old colt which was claimed as the property of S.S. Wright. Wright presented a bill of sale as proof of his ownership. Hayes signed his court papers with an "X," and took a pauper's oath so that his court cost were waived. S.S. Wright asked the court to return the colt to him. The monetary value of the colt was not proved by the evidence.

The defendants in error brought suit to recover a horse stolen by John Clardy and later sold to the plaintiff in error. The primary matter in controversy was whether the horse was the property of H. C. Moore or his wife, Kate J. Moore. The plaintiff claims the statute of limitations (3 years) has expired, but the defendants insist that the law allows for an extension if the stolen property belongs to a woman.
