Leach sued Bobo et al. to recover lumber seized under an execution against the plaintiff. Leach was a carpenter and possessed $20 worth of lumber to build a house for himself before it was seized. Leach charged said lumber was exempt, but court ruled in defendants favor. Leach appealed. |

J. T. Davis made an oath stating that he was entitled to the possession of one black horse mule, 8 years old. Davis claims that Elmer Guy unlawfully seized and detained the mule from Sternberger-Rainey Hardware Company. The mule was seized by Guy from Sam H. Bond to satisfy a mortgage on the mule. Dr. F. W. Whitehurst obtained a judgement against Bond and the mule was seized to be sold "as required by law." Bond also put the mule up as collateral on notes owed to Sternerger-Rainey Hardware Company . |

A. J. Leopold leased more than 50 pieces of home furnishings from Armstrong. At the end of the lease, Leopold had the option of buying the items. This was providing all payments were made on time; they weren't, so furnishings were repossessed by Security Bank of Memphis. Sheriff took possession of the goods. Testimony: J. C. Armstrong & Miss A. M. Littig (also identified as A. M. Little). Since the furnishings are listed, this case provides valuable information about the material culture of the period. |

White stated that he is the owner of the bales. He sold them to the Tennessee Cotton Growers Association (who already advanced him $600 on the sale). He took them to Lexington to be shipped to the Tennessee Cotton Growers Association where the First National Bank took possession of them under a bill of sale from Kennedy. |

Phipps sought to recover 25-30 thousand feet of oak and poplar lumber from O. B. Bynum. Phipps owned a portable steam saw mill and agreed to saw and stack 1 million feet of logs for Bynum, who would furnish the wood at yards on the Clay Solitude farm. A contract gave Phipps a lien on the lumber until his bill was paid, but it was never registered. Phipps sawed and stacked about 800,000 feet. Bynum took part of the lumber to raft to market, but Richardson levied it to satisfy an execution on Bynum. |
