Gregory (James' dad) bought mule for James (w/another mule) from Jack Edwards of Roane Cty. Mules were raised on his farm until taken by Sherman's army from Gregory's old black man Billy as army traveled to Knoxville to relieve Burnside in winter of 1863; mule in dispute later found in Browder's possession. W. R. Broadwater had a Velie Automobile he had purchased from Jewett Motor Company. J. C. Knowling sued and repossessed the car, but Broadwater did not appear in court. Broadwater resold to J. Lacy Barnes. The car was taken in by ET Auto & Tire who said they were owed money for storing the car. Barns sued to get the car back. |

One of Chesney's horses was taken by federal soldiers when they captured several confederate soldiers, some of which were supposedly of John H. Morgan's men. The horse was found in Claiborne County, being held by Bluford Venable, so that it might be returned to Rodgers, who claimed ownership. The case sought to settle true ownership of the horse. |

Mike Hays had in his possession a two year-old colt which was claimed as the property of S.S. Wright. Wright presented a bill of sale as proof of his ownership. Hayes signed his court papers with an "X," and took a pauper's oath so that his court cost were waived. S.S. Wright asked the court to return the colt to him. The monetary value of the colt was not proved by the evidence. |
