Malinda Scruggs died 1876, leaving a large farm near Jacksboro. Her husband W. J. Scruggs died about 1882 leaving 5 daughters as heirs. The farm was sold in 1884 to J. C. Hollingsworth to be paid in installments. The pltf. alleges that the husband of one of the daughters purchased an interest in the proceeds from another. This case involves these transactions. |

Additional petitioners: J. W. Kinzer, Robert Ladd. In 1866 M. P. Erwin conveyed a tract of land to his son, Blenan and 123 acres as trustee, to secure creditors of M.P Erwin. By decree of the court, the 123 acres was sold in the cause of JL Williams v. MP Erwin. The land was purchased by Blenan Erwin. Blenan Erwin conveyed the 123 acres of land and 88 acres of the land conveyed to him by his father to G. M. V. Kinzer. |

More of case in ET 1899 & ET OV 15. Other defendants: Henry Kimber; George Smith; Crooke Coal and Mining Company. Moore was a resident of New York State. Board was British company & Kimber & Smith were British. Moore sold several tracts of land that straddled the border of Scott & Morgan Counties. Sale was for $11,124 cash & 3 promissory notes of $7,146, each. Board then sold 1,300 acres to Crooke for $40,000. But Board did not repay the promissory notes to Moore. Oversize maps in ET OV 15. |
